Poem: Deciduous or Evergreen: Which Would I Be?

Whenever I look out my window, I always see a tree,
One day I questioned, “If that were me, what kind would I be?”
Would I be deciduous? Or would I be an evergreen?

(The Evergreen)

Evergreen never changing, full of leaves always green,
Competing for every available spot in the rainforest canopy,
Trying to get every bit of sunshine I can to shine on me.

Leaves falling off, changing colors, “Oh, Mother Nature, please.”
Trees are supposed to always be green. That’s why I’m their epitome.
Plus, I have everything I need, there’s no need to change me. Take a look at that poor tree over there, deciduous, always shedding, losing things,
There is no need to lose parts of yourself when you have been blessed like me, They need water, they need light, oh what a sad sight to see.

Too bad there is not enough of my lush beauty to go around,
If it were, I’d perhaps save some of this sunshine up here for those in below near the ground,
Oh well, so much for wishes guess we simply can’t have it all. So, I’ll just stand here in my glory and watch as they endure the Fall.

(The Deciduous Tree)

Evergreen, oh evergreen, I’m looking forward to it all,
The Father allows me to go through seasons so I can fulfill my call.
Seasons of drought and coldness are destined to be ahead, So, I have to make room for my leaves and get rid of what is dead.

Always being green is really not much fun you see, After a while, it gets pretty boring when others look at me.
They can’t tell what the Father is up to if I always look the same,
I need them to know He is working in me so they can glorify His name.

There is just not enough room for where I am going or what He wants me to do.
So, I have to release them so His plan for me may be pursued.
I can’t afford to get complacent and remain the way I came,
Because if I do, everything He did on the cross for me would be in vain.

So, again, If I had to choose what type of tree I would be?
I’d have to answer, I’d rather not be evergreen but deciduous so His work can be done in me.
