Hebrews 11: 1-6
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it, he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Every morning, we wake with the confidence that air will fill our lungs and sustain us. Although we can’t see the millions of gaseous molecules that constitute the air, we know they exist. Where does that assurance come from? Are we born with it? No. It comes from our experiences. It results from being able to breathe on a daily basis. In the Bible, we can also learn from the stories of those who walked in great faith like Abel, Enoch, Abraham, and so many others.
Our faith in God should be the just like theirs. Although we haven’t seen God physically, we have His word and have come to believe that He is real. However, God doesn’t want us to only believe He exists. He wants us to rise and lay our heads down daily with confidence that He is real. He wants us to know that He is ever-present. He wants us to know that He has great plans in store for us although we may not be able to see how it will come to pass.
We need a “now” faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. “Now faith” doesn’t wait to see to believe it. “Now” faith believes until it sees it. “Now faith” is a faith that grows as it goes. As we experience the promises and hand of God in our lives, our assurance in God should grow.
Whenever you’re in doubt of God, check His track record in your life. Reflect on all that God has done for you. Has He ever let you down? Well, rest assure He never will, my Friend.
