Last Wednesday, I was on my way home from picking my children up from school early due to the winter storm. We were slowly crossing a bridge when I lost control of the car, spun out, and hit the wall. As we were about to hit the wall a second time, I called out, “Jesus”. Immediately, the car stopped. I checked to see if my children were okay. They were fine. In a few seconds, another car came speeding past us as we were still sitting in the car. My daughter said,” Mom, we need to get out of the car now because they are going to hit us.” I turned the hazard lights on, grabbed the umbrella, and we all got out of the car in the 20 degrees, freezing rain, and quickly made our way across the street. My son was walking behind my daughter and me. As soon as our feet hit the sidewalk, a car came through speeding and spun out. I yelled out to him to hurry because it looked like the car was heading our way. Then, a truck and van followed. Both vehicles spun, hit one another, and preceded to hit the wall. All of this occurred within feet of my car. However, my car was left untouched. I called 911 and told them we had been in an accident. A nearby officer came. We told him what had just happened. He asked if we were alright and proceeded to get to the bridge to stop the traffic as all three vehicles were still on the bridge.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Roman 10:13 KJV
As we stood out in the freezing rain and waited for the officer to get the situation under control, all I could do was praise God for keeping us and allowing us to walk away unharmed. My daughter looked at me and said, “Mom, we were about to hit the wall again but the car just stopped.” I asked her if she heard what I said right before it stopped. I told her that I called on the name of Jesus and the car stopped spinning. I told both of my children that there is POWER in the name of Jesus. I wanted to use that moment to show them that we can call on His name in times of trouble and every day for whatever we need.
Romans 10:13 says, “whosoever calls upon His name SHALL be saved.” We often use this verse in terms of salvation, but it is appropriate for everything. I have been in moments of deep despair and pain where His name has been my healing. I have felt the weight of heartbreak or been in moments where I had no words, but I called on His name and His peace came in like a flood. There is no other name in heaven and earth that has the power to break the grip of sin and set the captive free. There is no other name that we can call on which makes demons tremble and pushes back the darkness. We may have people we can pick up the phone and call but they may or may not be available. Yet, when we call on Him, He is faithful to answer. By what name are we baptized, our sins blotted out, and we receive the Holy Ghost? Is there another name that washes, sanctifies, and justifies us? Whose name is mighty, everlasting, wonderful, and full of peace? There is no other name greater than that of Jesus. There is power in His name. Something happens when we call Him.
Friends, I want to encourage you and challenge your faith today. Instead of calling everyone else in times of trouble and putting our faith in man, call on the name of the Father. He is willing, ready, and able to show up on our behalf. I am so glad that we can have direct access to the King of Kings and the Creator of the Universe. We have the privilege of coming directly to the Throne of Grace and getting whatever we need.
Call on Him! He will answer.

Jesus…There’s just something about that name. Kings and kingdoms will all pass away but there’s just something about that name.🎶🎶❤ I praise God with you…
