Don’t Miss the Fruit

In my last post, The Trap of Distraction, I shared how God led me to step away from group chats and other noise in January so that I could refocus my time, energy, and creativity on what truly matters. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve come to realize that distractions don’t just steal our time. They rob us of fruit.

When we allow too many distractions in our lives, we risk missing the very things God has planted for us to harvest. The enemy loves to keep us busy, scrolling, chatting, comparing, or worrying, because if we’re distracted, we won’t notice the fruit God is producing in us and through us.

Think about it: fruit doesn’t just appear overnight. It grows quietly, sometimes unnoticed, while we are faithful in the process. But if our eyes are always somewhere else; on what others are doing, on temporary things, or on endless noise, we can miss the evidence of God’s hand at work in our own lives.

Jesus reminds us in John 15:5:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

That word “remain” speaks volumes. Remaining means being intentional, staying connected, and choosing to abide in Him rather than letting our attention drift to every little thing that calls our name. When we remain, we position ourselves not only to see the fruit but to enjoy it, and to share it.

The fruit God is growing in you, peace, joy, creativity, patience, opportunities, wisdom, is not meant to go unnoticed. But it will if we allow distractions to pull us away from the vine. That’s why I had to step back in January. I didn’t want to just be busy; I wanted to be fruitful. And now I see the growth happening in areas that were once stagnant, all because I chose to minimize distractions and focus on what truly matters.

So I ask you: are distractions keeping you from noticing the fruit God is producing in your life? Don’t let them rob you of your harvest. Choose to remain. Choose to focus. Choose to see the fruit.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the true vine and for making me a branch that can bear fruit through You. Lord, I confess that distractions have often pulled me away from focusing on You and the work You’re doing in my life. Help me to stay rooted, to remain in You, and to recognize the fruit You are growing in me. Teach me to guard my attention, to be intentional with my time, and to celebrate the evidence of Your hand at work. May my life reflect Your glory and produce fruit that blesses others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I've always had a passion for written expression. Over the years, I have documented my personal thoughts and prayers. Poems, devotionals, worship songs, and more have come from my life experiences. Now, I am ready to share them with the hope that lives and hearts will be changed as well as greatly blessed. I am flawed but striving for perfection in Christ. Although I have fallen short of the glory of God, I am forgiven. I am loved with an everlasting love. I am FREE!

  1. Hmm. And when that fruit is ignored (because a person is distracted), it hangs and hangs until it drops, soft & brown & unusable for its purpose.

I love the thought of redemption, though. God is so great that He will use that fruit another way (ie, to feed the ground, feed animals, reproduce). The fruit-bearer will not receive the blessing, but God still works and gets the glory.
