I Kings 8:57-61 (NIV) (Reference)
57 May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us. 58 May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors. 59 And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, 60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God and that there is no other. 61 And may your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.”
We have been committed to many things in our lives. Some of them good and some bad. Some of the things we have given our time to have left scars and great prices for us to pay. Today, I want to talk about true commitment. True commitment costs something. However, the best thing about it is that it’s not in vain and there is a 100% guarantee for the committed from the one whom they are committed to.
Philippians 1:21
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
In God, we have nothing to lose. We say we are devoted to God. We say that we live for God. However, there are still areas of our lives that we have yet to completely surrender to Him. What holds us back? It should not be hard when we consider all that He has done and the price He paid. We should be more than moved to give Him our all. There is a greater call to a higher place in God. You see, there is a deadline that we have to meet. It’s urgent.
Matthew 24:42
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Friends, we have work to do. There is a place of refreshing, restoration, deliverance, and fruitfulness that God has opened the door to. However, there is also a deeper, more meaningful commitment that God is requiring from all of us. Everyone wants to walk in His promises but no one wants to put it all on the line for kingdom sake. We are in an age of instant gratification; we want what we want when we want it, and how we want it. There is a sense of entitlement in the Body of Christ. Yet, we have not exhibited the level of commitment needed for God to release His promises. He wants it all. He wants our hearts, minds, bodies, and most of all our souls. We have allowed the cares of life to choke out the newness of life God has granted us. We have let hurts and other things create a gap between us and God. We reach for Him but only with one hand, while the other hand is still holding on to those things as if we are afraid to let go. God is saying, “When have I left you? When have you let go and I haven’t caught you?” It is I, the Lord your God, who has and is still holding you. What have you done with what I have already given you? Why should I give you more? He wants us to take what He has allowed us to possess and empower others for victory. He wants us to perfect that which He has given us.
1 Kings 8:61
61 Let your heart, therefore, be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
Perfect means to – Make (something) completely free from faults or defects, or as close to such a condition as possible. It also means to finish, consummate. 1. Lacking nothing essential to the whole; complete of its nature or kind.
Perfect our prayers, perfect our praise, our worship, our giving, our living. Total Commitment. We don’t stay in position long enough to see anything through. Commitment is Commitment. We have to know we are saved even when we don’t feel like it. We have to love others even when we aren’t loved back. We have to commit to being there for others even though we know we can’t count on them. We have to trust even when we can’t see. That is commitment. Here a few quick reminders of what the Father’s commitment to us looks like:
Romans 5:8
But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
What does such a level of commitment look like in us?
True Commitment makes us turn around and say, “I am not going anywhere because I have invested too much in this thing. God, I don’t know what lies ahead, how you’re gonna do it, and when, but I am not moving until I see it done because you said it. Even if you change the plan, count me in because my main desire is for you to get the glory out of my life”.
When He gets that level of commitment our of our lives, we are going to walk in the supernatural. We are going to experience some eyes have not seen, nor ears have heard types of things in God. I am so ready for that. Aren’t you? There will be souls being saved, people being healed, and kingdom connections being made to conquer this world for the Lord. Things that will blow this world’s mind and they will know that it was nobody else but the Lord.
What is stopping us from having lives fully committed to the ways of the Lord? We must examine ourselves. God doesn’t change so the problem lies within us. Once we align ourselves in total submission to God, we will see a level of God’s supernatural power that we’ve never seen before. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Lord says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will heal their land”. He is waiting for people who are totally submitted and committed to Him. Then, we will see great moves of God.
Let us pray that we will open our hearts and submit our souls to our Father so He can perform great things through us.
Blessings
