The God Who Stays

We have all felt the pain of broken relationships. Such moments have been some of the least enjoyable times of my life but they have been some of the most powerful. It has been during these times that I have been reminded of the ever-present love and comfort of God. I have experienced His faithfulness. I have learned that His love for me is not predicated on my performance or an extensive list of expectations. I already have His approval and it is unconditional. He knows every good and horrible thing about me. Yet, He still loves me. He knows my weaknesses and the areas in my life which I am in need of deliverance. He knows every failure, disappointment, and victory. I can confess my sins to Him and He listens from a place of unfathomable love with every intention of restoring me. He knows how much I weigh and what I look like without makeup. He is aware of every blemish and scar, both internal and external. He even knows the story behind every single one of them. He is not ashamed or burdened by my story but see’s it in the light of His glory.

I spent a great deal of my life trying to follow every rule and earn people’s love. One day, I realized that regardless of all I had done right, it would never be enough. The truth was that no one would ever be completely satisfied with me because they weren’t enough for themselves and I couldn’t fill that void. Just like I had to find my true identity in God and a sense of value in myself, they had to do the same.

I am grateful that my Father deals with me with patience and waits for me. He handles me with great care and wisdom. I find solitude in knowing that He will not walk out on me in my time of need or when I fall short of expectations. He doesn’t view me with the present in mind but through the eyes of eternity. He has great faith in me and what I shall become. He is rooting for me and wants to see me win. He has even sent His Spirit to walk with me every step of the way so I can fulfill my destiny. Even when I walk away, He pursues me and calls out to my heart.

Friends, He loves you the same. All of this is a reality in your life as well and He wants you to know. In fact, He wanted me to share this good news with you.

Scriptural Reminders:

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.'”

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I am so glad we are loved with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3). He is the God who stays! Glory to His name!

I am an educator, a wife of 24 years, and mother of three beautiful children. I have taught the word of God to all ages and love to share it in creative ways. I've always had a passion for written expression. Over the years, I have documented my personal thoughts and prayers. Poems, devotionals, worship songs, and more have come from my life experiences. Now, I am ready to share them with the hope that lives and hearts will be changed as well as greatly blessed. I am flawed but striving for perfection in Christ. Although I have fallen short of the glory of God, I am forgiven. I am loved with an everlasting love. I am FREE!
