Have you ever felt the tension between your own plans and God’s? I certainly have. It’s not always easy to surrender our desires and dreams, but aligning our hearts with God’s plan is the key to living a life of peace, purpose, and deep fulfillment. We live in a world that constantly pulls us in different directions, with endless to-do lists, personal ambitions, and outside pressures that compete for our attention. Yet, in the middle of all that noise, God gently calls us to realign our hearts with His perfect will.
God’s Plan Is Greater
Scripture reminds us that “many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21). Sometimes we run ahead of God, chasing things that seem good but aren’t necessarily God’s best for us. We get caught up in what feels urgent or exciting and forget to pause and ask Him what He desires for our lives. But the beauty of God’s plan is that it is always for our good—even when it doesn’t match what we had envisioned.
God’s plan isn’t just for life’s “big” moments; He also cares about the tiny details. Whether it’s our careers, relationships, finances, or how we spend our time, He wants to guide and bless every part of it.
Seeking Him First
Aligning our hearts with God’s plan starts with making Him our first priority. Matthew 6:33 tells us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” When God is first, everything else begins to fall into place—not because life becomes perfect, but because we are rooted in Him. Our focus shifts from trying to control every outcome to trusting His timing and His ways.
Spending time in prayer and in God’s Word helps us stay connected to His heart. It allows us to hear His voice and recognize when He’s redirecting us. When we make space for Him daily, we position ourselves to walk in step with His plan rather than striving in our own strength.
A Heart Fully Surrendered
Surrender is the key to alignment. And let’s be honest—it’s not always comfortable. I know I’ve always struggled with surrender but I have learned that my life has become so much easier when I have. In our humanity, relinquishing control is scary. However, our Father requires and instructs us to do so. Surrendering means laying down our desires and being willing to say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” It’s trusting that His way is not just better but perfect.
This kind of surrender doesn’t come from a place of fear or obligation. It’s born out of love—knowing that our Father’s heart toward us is kind and full of good intentions. When we truly believe that He is for us, we can let go of our need to control and allow Him to lead us into His plan, which far exceeds what we could ask or imagine.
Every Area, Every Step
Aligning our hearts with God’s plan is not a one-time decision but a daily journey. It means inviting Him into every area of life—our dreams, struggles, relationships, and even our failures. When we do, we begin to experience His peace and clarity in ways we never thought possible.
So, where in your life do you need to realign with God’s plan today? Maybe it’s in your work or how you spend your time. Maybe it’s in your relationships or a decision you’ve been wrestling with. Wherever it is, take a moment to pause, pray, and listen for His voice. Trust that He is ready to lead you, one step at a time, into the life He’s lovingly prepared for you.
Let’s make it our priority to seek His heart above all else, knowing that when we do, we’ll never be led astray. His plan is always worth it.
Reflection Question: What is one area of your life where you can start seeking God’s plan more intentionally today?
Remember, a surrendered heart and life is the BLESSED life.
Go in His grace and love, my friends.

Ah, yes, the giving up of our plans and goals and giving it all to God. At my age, I’ve been there enough times to know absolutely that God’s way is always best – “perfect,” as you say.
We had a trip planned, to leave tomorrow and stay over the weekend, to be with family. I really wanted to go. But God put up several roadblocks, enough for me to give up and surrender. I have peace about it, but still wish we could have gone. Sometimes we get to find out why things turned out one way or another; sometimes we’ll just have to wait until Heaven.
