Committed to Realignment: Living on Purpose, Not by Default

A person sits quietly by the ocean, surrounded by balanced stone stacks at sunset.

There is a quiet tension that comes when something in your life feels… off.

It’s not loud.
It’s not obvious.
But it’s always there.

It shows up when your decisions feel heavier than they should.
When your peace feels broken.
When your work feels productive, but not really purposeful.

That tension is often a sign that things are not lining up.

And if we’re honest, things not lining up doesn’t always come from rebelling.
Sometimes, it just happens because we drift.

We get busy.
We get comfortable.
We start moving fast without stopping to ask, “Am I still doing what God told me to do?”

Things don’t just accidentally line up.

Getting things in alignment isn’t something you just stumble into.
It’s something you choose, on purpose and over and over again.

In both your private life and your work, getting aligned means you have to pause long enough to really think.

To ask the hard questions: Am I doing this for the right reasons? Is it God leading this choice, or just me feeling pressured? Am I actually creating something meaningful, or just putting on a show?

Scripture reminds us:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
— Psalm 139:23–24

Thinking things over isn’t a weakness.
It’s smart.

It’s how we invite God into the parts of our lives where we’ve just been going on autopilot.

Getting back on track requires honesty.

You can’t fix something if you won’t even admit it’s broken.

Realignment starts when you’re honest about a few things: what no longer fits, what God didn’t actually give you to do, or what you took on because of fear, comparing yourself to others, or feeling rushed.

In your work, this might look like going after chances that bring in money but don’t really make a difference, building in a way God never actually told you to, or saying yes too fast and then trying to pray about it later.

In your private life, it might mean sticking to habits that just wear you out, letting thoughts in that go against what’s true, or holding onto things God already said to let go of.

Scripture makes it clear:

“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.”
— Lamentations 3:40

Notice that word: return.

Getting back on track isn’t a failure.
It’s just getting back to what’s true.

Alignment means always adjusting.

Getting things aligned isn’t a one-time thing.
It’s how you live.

Life changes.
Responsibilities pile up.
Opportunities shift.

And in each new time, God is still asking:

Will you stay aligned with Me here too?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6

Submitting isn’t just sitting back.
It’s actively making things line up.

It means bringing all your plans, your goals, your ideas, and laying them before God consistently.

Not just at the start.
But all along the way.

The good things you get from alignment.

Getting things aligned might cost you your comfort.
It might mean you have to slow down, change direction, or even begin again.

But what comes from it is totally worth it.

Clarity.
Peace.
Direction.
Purpose.

And in the end, it helps you live the life God planned for you, both personally and professionally.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
— Proverbs 16:9

When you’re aligned, you stop trying to force things that were never meant to work.
You stop chasing after things that were never meant to truly satisfy you.

And you start building, living, and moving from a place of what God assigned you to do, not just your own ambition.

Take a moment and sit with this:

Where in your life do you feel tension or a lack of peace?
Have you been just going along in your business to keep things moving, even if it’s not truly aligned?
What is God asking you to look at again, let go of, or get back on track with?
Are you making time to really think things over, or are you constantly busy?

Be honest.
God already knows.
He’s just inviting you to agree with Him.

Let us pray.

Father,

Thank You for being a God who doesn’t leave me to figure life out on my own. Thank You for Your guidance, Your correction, and Your patience with me when I wander off.

Help me to live on purpose and not just let things happen. Give me the awareness to see where things are out of line in both my personal life and my work. Teach me how to pause, think things over, and invite You into every decision I make.

Search my heart and show me anything that’s not in order. Give me the courage to let go of what You didn’t give me to do and the self-control to get back on track with what You’ve called me to do.

Order my steps, Lord. Make my thoughts, my actions, and my reasons line up with Your will. Let everything I build, pursue, and manage show Your purpose for my life.

May I not just be productive, but purposeful.
Not just busy, but aligned.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

If you pay attention and are open to it, getting back on track won’t feel like a problem…
It will feel like a clear path forward.

And that kind of clarity?
It changes everything.

Be blessed, my friends.
