After the Release: What Do We Do With the Freedom God Gives Us?

There’s something beautiful, almost breathtaking, about that moment when release finally happens.
As the weight falls.
When the tears can fall without shame.
When your soul exhales after years of holding its breath.

But then comes the following question….

What do we do with the freedom that follows?
Letting go is not the end. Release is the doorway. Freedom is what waits on the other side. And freedom-realm, God-breathed freedom-asks something of us.

Freedom requires stewardship.
When God loosens the grip of an old wound or breaks the chains that held your heart hostage, He isn’t just removing something.

He’s making space for something.

Healing makes space.
Freedom creates opportunity.

Freedom brings responsibility.

The freedom God gives us must be stewarded.

Not managed by fear.
Not dealt with shamefully.
Wasted by slipping back into the very things He just carried you out of.

Stewarding your freedom means choosing differently, intentionally, consistently, and with your whole heart.

Freedom asks, Who are you now?

After the release, there’s a quiet moment when God invites you to meet yourself again. Not the trauma-contoured version. Not the version hardened by disappointment. Not the version based on survival mode.

No. He invites you to meet the new you: the one who is no longer carrying what once overshadowed everything.

Freedom allows you permission to:

set boundaries without guilt
dream again without fear
redefine your identity in Christ and not in your pain

walk in purpose without the past tugging on your ankles

Freedom asks, “Now that the chains are off, how will you walk?

Freedom isn’t passive. It’s practiced.

Release is a moment.

Freedom is a lifestyle.
Freedom is to choose forgiveness. again.

Freedom is to choose peace anew.
Freedom is choosing not to rehearse the wound… again.

Freedom is choosing God’s voice over your triggers… again.
Freedom is messy sometimes.

Yet it is freedom.

And every choice you make in that direction strengthens the new thing God is building in you.

Freedom moves you further.

What God expects, not perfection but movement, comes after the release.

There’s no pressure to become whole overnight.

There is no timer on your progress.

There’s just a gentle, continual invitation:

Keep going.
Keep becoming.
Keep walking toward the life you couldn’t see when the weight was still on you.
Freedom opens your eyes again.
Freedom opens your heart again.
Freedom opens your future again.
And the beauty is-God doesn’t just give you freedom.
He walks with you in it.

Reflection Questions
What does living free look like to me right now?
What habits or mindsets do I need to practice to protect my freedom?

Where is God inviting me to grow now that I’m not carrying what once held me back?
What new boundaries, rhythms, or commitments honor the healing I’ve received?

A Prayer for Walking in Freedom

Lord, Thank You for the release. Thank You for carrying what was beyond my strength, for healing what was beyond my reach. Now teach me to walk in the freedom You’ve given— with wisdom, with courage, with clarity, and with joy. Help me steward this season well. not sliding back into old patterns, but step boldly into the life You’ve prepared for me. Strengthen my steps, steady my heart, and guide me daily as I learn to live free. Amen.

Healing opened the door. But freedom? Where freedom is, you begin to live again. And let me say it again… FREE looks good on you.

I am a former educator, entrepreneur, wife, and mother of three beautiful children. I have taught the word of God to all ages and love to share it in creative ways. I've always had a passion for written expression. Over the years, I have documented my personal thoughts and prayers. Poems, devotionals, worship songs, and more have come from my life experiences. Now, I am ready to share them with the hope that lives and hearts will be changed as well as greatly blessed. I am flawed but striving for perfection in Christ. Although I have fallen short of the glory of God, I am forgiven. I am loved with an everlasting love. I am FREE!

  1. Sometimes we get to just crawl up into the lap of our Heavenly Abba, and sit as He cradles us. Heb 4.16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

When you receive the forgiveness God so freely gives, be sure to fill your heart with God and His Word. No one can keep an empty house.

Matthew 12.43 – 45 43When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it passes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ On its return, it finds the house vacant, swept clean, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and dwell there; and the final plight of that man is worse than the first. So will it be with this wicked generation.”

Free looks good on you, indeed! ☺️
